  1. Torch Club

Dance out what you drink- HERE

OMG... So many fabulous bands at the torch.  It doesn't matter what day of the week you come to this un-assuming corner of Sacramento- the music is always amazingly fun! mostly blues, but they weave in a band named Mind X from time to time.  Look for them in the schedule. you will be amazed by all the instruments on stage and be floored by the talent that plays them.  DIGIRIDOOS, MANDOLINS, FIDDLES, GUITARS, B-3'S, PERCUSSION, DRUMS, BASS, LAP STEEL, PEDDAL STEEL.  They make it work well on stage and you make it work on the dance floor- you will wake up refreshed the next day from all the dancing the night before with this band!

  2. 20th Street Art Gallery

Visit a few days AFTER Second Saturday!

This is the best place in town to buy reasonably-priced original art from local painters.  Don't believe me?  Try to get in the door on Second Saturday!  My advice is to visit shortly after that overly-popular event in order to see and appreciate the works without being crowded into a wall.

This site offers a wonderful annual event entitled, The 50-50-50 Show, wherein 50 artists create 50 pieces (most often images, but some sculpture) over the course of 50 days.  They then stuff all 2500 pieces into a relatively small space, throw in some appetizers and a few thousand Second Saturday shoppers, and you have a glorious mess of an art show which never ceases to amaze me!  Even my preteen daughter begs to visit the gallery during this show -- the power of good, approachable art!

Dear Midtowners, Downtowners, Gridsters, Californians, and All Americans,

We no longer live in red and blue states, but a renewed United States!

The polls have officially closed and the doors of a country are officially open: it is 8:01 p.m. in California.

The election is over no matter how you voted and our new President-elect Barack Hussein Obama will work to inspire us toward the fulfillment of the common "pursuit of happiness."

From here, all chil
